Famous as the 'jewel of the desert ', Jaisalmer is situated in the heart of the Thar Desert. It was founded by Rawal Jaisal, a Rajput king in 1156A.D. Popular for its ancient sandstone Havelis (mansions) the city comprises of monuments that have retained their distinct style and character. The 'Patton ki Haveli' is the most magnificent mansion here, famous for its windy windows and balconies. Famous for its scenic beauty, the Gadsisar Sagar Tank is situated in the heart of the city. You can also visit the fascinating yellow sandstone's Golden Fort of Jaisalmer. The architectures of the city including houses built during 12th - 15th centuries are exquisitely carved, having filigreed work all over are made from amber-colored sandstone, giving it distinctly golden hue. Jaisalmer is also famous as 'the Museum city'.
