Overnight in Delhi
Wake up refreshed in the morning and head down for a sumptuous breakfast, after which you gather in the hotel lobby to embark on a sightseeing trip of Delhi City, the first city in a Golden Triangle tour.
As a city-state and home to the capital city of India – New Delhi, Delhi is a potpourri of the many diverse cultures, languages and religions in India, whose relics adorn almost every alleyway. Your drive through the city last night was just a taster. The real thing awaits and you can enjoy it fully with a guided sightseeing tour of Delhi City, which will take you past some of the most famous landmarks of Old and New Delhi while ensuring a truly immersive experience of Delhi.
Old Delhi, as the name reflects, is the Mughal Delhi or Shahjahanabad, an area which is defined by the presence of age-old havelis, narrow alleys twisting in and out of the sprawling Chandni Chowk Market, the Red Fort, the fortress home of the Mughals at its very heart and Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India.
New Delhi, on the other hand, is the Colonial-era Delhi developed by the British and later by the Independent Indian Government. Broad, leafy boulevards and architectural landmarks such as Rasthrapathi Bhawan, Rajpath, Parliament House, India Gate and Rajghat mark these areas in addition to pre-colonial-era landmarks such as Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar.
You will be visiting all these attractions with a knowledgeable guide, who will regale you with historic anecdotes and legends in addition to imparting the facts of the attractions. More details of these Delhi attractions can be found on our printable Delhi tourism guide.
In the evening, enjoy the Dances of India Show, a powerful expression of Indian culture and tradition conveyed through classical dance forms of India including Bharatnatyam (Tamil Nadu), Kathakhali (Kerala), Manipuri (Manipur – NE India) and the fun-filled Bhangra (Punjab).
The day’s programme ends with a drop, back to the hotel.
